Organisation purpose / activities
Sampark is a women led NGO, based in Bangalore, and was set up in 1991. Our mission is to assist vulnerable and poor people (especially women) to gain direct control over and improve their lives. We believe everyone should have access to basic human rights, dignity, self -determination and opportunities to enhance their own potential, livelihoods and wellbeing.
In Bangalore urban, Sampark set up Workers Resource Centre (WRC) to educate and empower migrant workers in health, education, finance, social security and legal sectors to make them aware and access their rights. Crèches for children of migrant construction workers to provide early childhood care, safety, health and education enabled children to be competent and confident individuals.
In villages of Koppal district, Karnataka and Varanasi Sampark works with in organizing and strengthening women’s self-help groups into cooperatives who are self-owned, self-managed and viable microfinance organizations.
Impact assessment
Sampark has reached Interstate migrant workers through the setting up of Worker Resource Centers which have educated and empowered 50,000 migrant workers about their health, education, finance, social security and legal rights and entitlement. 15,000 of these, of which 7,500 are women, have registered with the Karnataka Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board to access social protection schemes worth 5 Crore.
We run creches supporting 50,000 migrant worker children with access to early childhood care, safety, health and education in 50 loaction of Bangalore.
Sampark has empowered 16,000 rural women from Koppal, Karnataka and Varanasi by building capacities and alternate livelihoods option for them.
