Organisation purpose / activities
| CLPR is dedicated to making the Constitution work for everyone through law and policy research, social and governance interventions and strategic impact litigation. Our activities include taking up impact litigation and legal representation and support for marginalized groups, free legal cell for LGBTQIA+ persons, conducting various Constitutional awareness programs. We also build legal capacity of law students and young lawyers and civil society organisations working at the grassroots. Finally, we engage in rigorous analysis of the law to produce publications on our focus areas. |
Impact assessment
| Through strategic impact litigation in Navtej Singh Johar v. Union of India, Sangama v. State and Independent Thought vs Union of India among others, CLPR has significantly affected LGBTQI+ persons, especially transgender persons, and cases of child marriage. Its legal capacity workshops have enabled over 700 lawyers and 900 activists and law students to deepen their understanding of the law. In last 3 years alone, CLPR’s research on the issues of discrimination and intersectionality has produced 4 high quality policy briefs with substantive recommendations. These shared with over 150 policymakers, bureaucrats, media persons, activists and academics. |
