SUMMARY:Utsav Lal’s Ragas to Reels
DESCRIPTION:Connecting Irish and Hindustani musical traditions\, this performance conjures a rich sonic landscape where Sean-nós airs dissolve into alap\, harp songs converse with thumri and chhands\, and reels and jigs ignite into tarana and jhala. Featuring traditional repertoire alongside original compositions\, the music is a thrilling celebration of two ancient traditions reimagined for the global stage. \n \nThe performance is part of Utsav Lal’s Ragas to Reels India Tour 2026\, supported by Culture Ireland as a flagship showcase for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Over the past decade\, Lal has presented the project across Ireland\, the UK\, India and the USA\, at venues including Southbank Centre (London) and Irish Arts Center (New York).
