SUMMARY:The Last Mass Leader of Karnataka
DESCRIPTION:In 1983\, when Siddaramaiah became an MLA for the first time\, few would have guessed that the bearded\, fiery youth would rise to the highest chair in Karnataka to lead the state not just once\, but twice.  \nEarlier this year\, when Siddaramaiah walked into the arched portals of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru\, he became the longest serving Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is the last of the mass leaders of this state\, whose political cachet is not drawn just from his own caste but from a coalition of castes. His career has zigzagged like the needle of a seismograph measuring a massive earthquake. \nWhile Siddaramaiah has demitted the chief minister’s office\, he will continue to remain a powerful player and is certain to remain an active politician. This panel discussion brings together experts to explore his contributions to the politics and society of Karnataka\, from his grounding in socialism to his welfare politics. \nA Q&A session will follow. \n
