SUMMARY:The Equal Worth of Every Human Life
DESCRIPTION: \nWhy should so many people suffer and die from ailments for which care exists? \nBased on the book\, A Matter of Life and Death\, this conversation unpacks the consequences of profit-driven healthcare\, weighing the possibilities and limits of law\, the governmental responsibilities\, and what more equitable systems of public care might look like. \nRecognising health as a right begins with recognising the equal worth of every human being\, and making care a matter of collective\, public responsibility. The session asks why so many\, from people living with homelessness\, leprosy\, tuberculosis\, and mental illness\, to those facing unequal treatment across class\, caste\, gender\, citizenship\, and geography. At its heart is a larger\, distinctly Gandhian question: what would it take to build a society in which the last man in the line\, the poorest and most excluded person\, can enter a health system with the same dignity and the same claim to life as anyone else? \nVenue: Seminar Halls\n\n\nHealth in a Just and Caring Society\nRSVP here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSec-7zxaGs4We734VUL6OfTYaaFQrPHNZGUU0cBuD-rOblXpA/viewform?usp=pp_url)\n*Speakers*: Harsh Mander\, Gita Sen\, Rishiraj Bhagawati\, Annapurna Garimella\n*Event Categories*: Books\, Development\, Governance\, Health & Wellness\, Nonfiction\, Public Health\, Society
