MD Pallavi (Bangalore) and Andi Otto (Hamburg) have been musical collaborators since 2016, when their single “Bangalore Whispers” hit a sweet spot on downtempo dancefloors worldwide. Their new album “Songs For Broken Ships” (LP/dig Pingipung 2023) combines Pallavi’s Kannada vocals with electronic production between experimental acoustic ballads and disco tracks. The album has been nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award 2023.

Andi Otto will perform on his unique sensor-extended cello called “Fello”, MD Pallavi will sing. Both artists will also play electronic instruments.

The concert combines live versions of their studio tracks with free improvisations revealing traces of Indian classical music in their trans-traditional artistic approach.


Pallavi MD

Singer, Composer, Actor & Filmmaker

Pallavi MD is a singer, actor, composer and filmmaker from Bengaluru, India. Trained in Hindustani classical music and poetry since childhood, she carries a deep-rooted connection with her native language, Kannada. Her artistic endeavors reflect a rich blend of traditional and contemporary elements.

With a degree in Hindustani classical music from Benares University, Pallavi has spent over two decades performing Kannada poetry (bhavageethe) and composing music for various mediums such as theatre, dance, and television. Her artistry delves into timeless themes, evident in her performances where she translates ancient poems into captivating musical narratives. Addressing topics such as social equality, artistic struggles, and surreal dreamscapes, Pallavi’s renditions breathe new life into age-old verses, infusing them with relevance and modern resonance.

Her creative journey expands across a wide spectrum, encompassing directorial roles in plays, acting on both stage and screen, collaborative projects with classical musicians, fusion ensembles, and interdisciplinary international collaborations. Pallavi’s artistic pursuits thrive on pushing the boundaries of form and content, constantly seeking multidisciplinary collaborations and projects that experiment with artistic expression. Her passion for merging different art forms and her dedication to storytelling through music and performance showcase the depth and versatility of her artistic vision.

Andi Otto

Musician & Composer

Andi Otto is a composer and performer of electronic music based in Hamburg, Germany.
He has recorded his music as Springintgut from 2002-2014, today he uses his actual name for all releases. He has released five albums, various singles, collaborations and remixes on international labels.

On stage, he plays a unique sensor-extended cello bow which he has developed in collaboration with STEIM in Amsterdam. This instrumental system which he calls Fello allows for gestural performance of the electronically processed sounds of the amplified cello. Andi Otto regularly composes for theatre and dance performances in which he also appears as a performer. His work has taken him around the world, most recently to India, Nigeria, Japan and Brazil.

Andi Otto is also one of the founders of the Pingipung label and as a DJ he hosts a regular night at Hamburg’s Golden Pudel Club. He is a member of the Flinn Works Collective from Berlin.

He has written his PhD thesis about the STEIM SensorLab, a pioneering device for physical interfaces in electronic music from the 1980s. He teaches media theories and hands-on workshops at HKB in Bern and Humboldt Universität Berlin.
