SUMMARY:Rediscovering Play
DESCRIPTION: \nThis workshop explores India’s traditional games\, from seed-sowing board games to lively outdoor play\, passed down across generations. Participants will learn and play a curated selection of five to eight games chosen to suit the group\, discovering the strategy\, wit\, and community spirit built into each one. What might a game invented centuries ago still have to teach us about patience\, cooperation\, and joy? \nThe session moves between quiet\, tactical play and boisterous group games\, layering theory into hands-on practice as participants pick up rules\, strategies\, and the stories behind them. Games are drawn from a wider repertoire and vary by group\, spanning seed-sowing games like Pallankuzhi and Alukuzhi Mane\, dice-based games such as Thayam and Pagade\, strategy games including the Tower of Brahma and Goat and Tiger\, war-strategy games like Country Chess and Nine Men’s Morris\, and bonus play with spinning tops\, marbles\, and cup and ball. No prior experience is necessary. Traditional games are living heritage. As carriers of mathematical logic\, social rhythm\, and cultural memory\, these games continue to reward a room of strangers as readily as a family across three generations. \nIn collaboration with:\nIma reCreation &  \nAround the World in 50 Sundays is a journey that begins\, not with a ticket\, but with opening a book. In a city like Bangalore where families are always in motion\, the BIC Library hopes to offer stillness and a quiet\, welcoming space for both parents and children where reading becomes a shared experience. Every Sunday\, we open our doors to invite you into a library that listens; building a rhythm of return\, a habit of joy and a new community bound not just by books\, but by the weekly ritual of reading together. \nWe welcome your ideas and input.
