SUMMARY:Non-Aligned Modernism
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to build a nation’s identity from scratch? This lecture traces the life of Aditya Prakash\, one of India’s first Modernist architects. His son\, Vikramaditya Prakash\, explores his body of work that reflects the idea of non-aligned modernism — a third way of building a modern\, internationalist identity of a newly independent nation\, resisting allegiance to either capitalist or communist blocs. \nBorn in 1924 in colonial India\, Aditya Prakash trained in London before joining the Chandigarh Capital office as a junior architect under Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. Over the following decades\, he designed nearly 100 buildings and urban plans\, while also working as an artist\, sculptor\, furniture designer\, and theatre actor. For him\, architecture\, sculpture\, and performance were never separate disciplines\, but expressions of a single question: how to live fully while keeping the interests of the poorest at heart. He called this his “continuous line” — the philosophical thread that ran through everything he made. \nIn collaboration with: \n \nVenue: Seminar Halls\n\n\nModernism\, Independence\, and the Search for Identity\nRSVP here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeIsBTa-lamziXE3BMUU3lgRf4r1qObpBi_su8mdHqcchET4w/viewform?usp=publish-editor)\n*Speaker*: Vikramaditya Prakash\n*Event Categories*: Architecture\, History\, Politics\, Society
