Bookmaker, Art Director & Design Educator

Date & Time

Saturday Sat, 18 Nov 2023

Bangalore International Centre
7, 4th Main Road, Domlur II Stage
Bangalore, Karnataka 560071 India

The allure of judging books by their covers is a testament to our deeply ingrained human nature, where first impressions are usually ones that stick around the most. Our eyes instinctively seek aesthetic harmony, a symphony of colors and design that beckon us towards our next literary pick. The artful strokes of cover illustrations and the meticulously chosen fonts therefore become our first glimpse into the author’s intention, and if done right – a tantalizing whisper of the narrative’s essence.

Devangana Dash will talk to us about what goes into the making of a cover as an effective piece of storytelling and communication. With a brief introduction to the design process and literary genres, the session will discuss the psychological, aesthetic and marketing strategies involved in crafting visual stories.

The second half of the session will be a hands-on activity for the participants to help them visualise their own covers for their favourite books.
