SUMMARY:Being Bhaijaan
DESCRIPTION:80 minutes | Hindi with English subtitles | 2014 | India \nWhat makes a star a god? \nBeing Bhaijaan explores Indian masculinity by mapping the emotional\, spiritual and philosophical contribution Salman Khan makes in the lives of three men in small-town India\, who find themselves increasingly disassociated with a changing country\, its competitiveness\, and its new woman. To find solace in a notion of manhood\, constructed brick-by-brick\, through a superstar’s perceived personality\, which is as old-world as Salman Khan’s films. \nPosters of his dance shows say that Shan Ghosh\, Salman Lookalike by profession and passion\, is the Junior Salman of Nagpur. He is ‘hamara Salman’ on the very intense Jai Salman WhatsApp group\, and a beloved bhai to textile salesman Balram and the engineer-at-heart\, Bhaskar. Along with other Salman fans\, they’ve launched a collective search for a larger identity\, to replace the very ordinary one life handed out to them. \nDirectors Samreen Farooqui and Shabani Hassanwalia (joining virtually) will be in conversation with Aastha Chauhan following the screening. They will discuss masculinity\, identity\, aspiration\, and the emotional worlds men quietly build around cinema. The floor will then open to audience questions. \nAbout the Organiser:\nThe Drawing Room Club is a Bangalore-based community that hosts intimate\, conversation-forward gatherings. They aim to make the city feel less anonymous and a little more like home. Past gatherings have included Letters to Strangers and Letters of Hope. \n  \n
