The Colours of Classical Music

Holi, the traditional festival of colours or festival of spring celebrates the eternal love of Radha and Krishna. It signifies the triumph of Good over Evil.
Indian Music as diverse as the colours, has several compositions depicting the festival. Apart from the traditional classical compositions, there are several others by legendary musicians, which bring out the beauty of the festival and unearth different facets of the raag. The association of Holi with colours is also brought out in many classical compositions.
This thematic presentation will include Khayal compositions, Bhajans, Abhangs, Thumri, Dhamar, Chaturang, Hori, Bandish ki Thumri, Awadh ki Hori, Shivji ki Hori and Rasiya, all based on the Festival of Colours (Holi).

Dhananjay Hegde
Dhananjay started learning music at the age of 4 and his mother Smt. Geeta Hegde was his first Guru. For a short period, he had training under Pt. Venkateshkumar. Since 1989, he has been undergoing training under Pt. Vinayak Torvi in Gurukul tradition.
He has performed all over India and abroad. He has won several awards including prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangit Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru Yuva Puraskar, SaMaPa Yuva Ratan Puraskar, New Delhi.

Ruchira Kedar
Ruchira Kedar is one of the popular young Hindustani vocalists in India today and is well known for her exceptionally skilful & emotive renditions of a variety of Hindustani musical forms like Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan etc. Recipient of the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangeet Natak Akademi Govt.of India, she is a senior disciple of legendary artists & Gurus like Dr. Alaka Deo Marulkar, Pt.Ulhas Kashalkar and Vidushi Girija Devi.
Ruchira is an “A” grade artist of All India Radio and has a Master’s degree in English Literature & Ph.D in Music to her credit. She has received many fellowships & awards at the National level and she regularly performs at prestigious music festivals like Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav, Tansen Samaroh, ITC SRA Sangeet Sammelans, Bengal Classical Music Festival etc all over India and abroad. Her highly melodious & powerful voice and graceful style of performance have earned her the admiration of music lovers everywhere.

Vyasmurti Katti
Shri. Vyasmurti Katti, born in a music loving family was initiated into music by his sisters. He then went on to take systematic training in the harmonium from late Pt. Ramacharya Bagewadi of Solapur. He is presently learning vocal music under the able guidance of Pt. Indudhar Nirody who is a very senior exponent of the Agra gayaki.
He has accompanied on harmonium, Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Dr. Gangubai Hangal, Pt. Yashwantbua Joshi, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, Pt. Rajan and Pt. Sajan Mishra, Smt. Malinitai Rajurkar, Dr. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande and many others.
He has toured extensively in India and in countries like USA, UK, France, Holland, Italy etc to give concerts with eminent artistes.

Sarfaraaz Khan
Sarfaraaz Khan born into a family of Musicians who hails from Kirana Gharana. His grandfather Ustad Abdul Quader Khan Sahab was a Sarangi Maestro. He was a staff artist in A.I.R Dharwad. His great grandfather Ustad Sheik Abdulla Khan was a court musician at the Mysore Palace and Nawab’s of Hyderabad. Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Sarfaraaz’s father is also a renowned vocalist and Sarangi player.
Sarfaraaz started his initial tutelage under the guidance of his father at the age of 4 years for both Sarangi and Vocals. Now, he is training under the living legend Guru Padma Vibhushan Pt. Ramnarayan.
He has performed for many prestigious organisations throughout India & abroad like The Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation and the Dharwad Music Festival (Bharati Sangeet Vidayalaya), and the Consulate General of India (Dubai).

Vighnesh Kamath
A liking for percussion and rhythm since childhood caused Vighnesh to be initiated into Tabla by T. Haridas Pai under whom he trained for a period of 3 years. Further he was trained under Shri Bhimashankar Bidanur, Mysuru for two years. A Polymer Science Engineer by Qualification, he followed his passion for the tabla, taking it as a full time profession. Since 2011 he has been receiving Taleem from the illustrious Tabla Maestro, Dr. Aneesh Pradhan, Mumbai. He has pursued an MA in Tabla from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune.
He has accompanied veteran musicians of Hindustani Classical Music such as Pt. Tulsidas Borkar, Pt. Prabhakar Dharmadhikari, Pt. Murli Manohar Shukla, Archana Kanhere, Shubha Mudgal, Upendra Bhat, Devaki Pandit, Shaunak Abhisheki, Sudhir Nayak and Ustad Rafique Khan.
