OUR LAND | B•LORE by BIC

Film by Sayantan Acharya

Once known as India’s ‘Green City’, Bangalore has been losing its greenery over the years and this has had an impact on the behaviour and challenges faced by animals, especially monkeys, as they aim to survive in the ever expanding city. As several trees have been cut in the name of development, city planning and road expansions, natural ecological habitats are dwindling; animals that live alongside humans in urban areas are losing their homes. Filmed in Bangalore, this short documents the human-monkey coexistence in our city. It provokes us to consider and reflect upon the the issues brought about as a result of such a coexistence for human and monkey. The film records daily encounters and conflicts between humans and monkeys at Atria University campus in Anandnagar, Bangalore. It begs the question, whose land is it anyway?
