This concert is a traditional Alap, Jor and Jhala framed in the Dhrupad style which is the hallmark of Maihar Senia Gharana followed by Vilambit and Drut Gata and Jhala.
This will be interspersed by reminisces from the Maihar Gharana by the performers, Shiraz Ali Khan and Arindam Bhattacharyya about their musical journey and the contribution of Senia Maihar Gharana to Indian Classical Music.

Shiraz Ali Khan
Shiraz Ali Khan is making a sincere attempt to carry on the lineage of the prestigious Maihar Gharana. As the great grandson of legendary Acharya Baba Allauddin Khan, grandson of Late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and son of Late Dhyanesh Khan and nephew of Ustad Aashish Khan, Shiraz is firmly rooted in his tradition as a sarode player, to make his way, break boundaries and carve a niche for himself, as an artiste to reckon with.
As a teenager, he started experimenting with introducing other musical influences to the classical compositions he was trained to play, which resulted in the birth of a fusion band, Indian Blue, in 2002. Being the lead player for his band gives him the freedom to orchestrate compositions that create several new sounds. He is instrumental in taking his band beyond the comforts of their home city, Kolkata.

Mainak Biswas
Mainak Biswas is an aspiring percussionist developing his musical career under Guru Shri Ashim Bhattacharjee as a soloist & accompanist of Farukhabad Gharana. His first public performance was at the age of 5 for Aashish Khan School of World Music, Kolkata.
Beside his education in tabla, Mainak also performs various percussion instruments such as Pakhawaj & Drums throughout the world. Besides his classical taalim under his guru’s tutelage, Mainak is exploring every kind of world music with his band ZYNC. His sense in audio production and dynamics helps him deliver the best sound of his instrument in performances.
