Starry-eyed and unprepared, Sudha, strays off the map on solo journeys to weird and unheard of locations and comes back with side-splitting accounts of bizarre encounters. Her book The Travel Gods Must Be Crazy, just published by Penguin Random House, is a hilarious account of her misadventures across five continents. Come join us for a talk on travel as she shares her adventures with us!
Sudha Mahalingam likes to describe herself as a restless itinerant masquerading as an energy professional. She has been an energy economist, a petroleum regulator, an energy security member of the National Security Advisory Board, a Nehru fellow at Teenmurti and a journalist over the past 40 years during which she deftly manoeuvred her way through 16 jobs in 12 cities, following her husband’s numerous transfers, playing the true Bharatiya Naari. Her penchant for the unlikely and the unusual and her irrational appetite for risk have landed her in downright freaky, hilarious and in embarrassing situations some of which she narrates in her book. Nowadays, she just lounges around wistfully watching travel shows on youtube and plotting how to rope in some unsuspecting friend on another risky and unplanned journey to the boondocks.
